Christine Schmidle received her MFA at Mary Baldwin College, where she previously completed her MLitt with a thesis entitled “English Comedians in Germany; A Performance-Based Approach to Textual Development of Their Plays.” She received her Honors Associate’s degree from Suffolk County Community College and her Bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University, and at both schools received awards for her scholarly excellence. 

Christine’s acting experience includes roles in American Shakespeare Center’s Summer/Fall 2009 season, in the Actors’ Renaissance Season in 2009, and in the Outreach program in 2008.  She has also performed for Pocket Theater in Stony Brook and the Airport Playhouse in 2004, as well as in numerous academic productions.

After returning to Germany in 2010, she worked at the Shakespeare Festival in Neuss, Germany. In 2011 she had the opportunity to work alongside Giles Block, Globe Associate (Text) at Shakespeare's Globe in London on the renaissance plays of the season. 2012-14 she spend in Krefeld as assistant director with directors such as Michael Gruner, Christoph Roos and Hüseyin Michael Cirpici. Christine has been published in Shakespeare Bulletin: 'Bilingual Hamlet: Der Bestrafte Brudermord in the 21^st century' and translated Der Bestrafte Brudermord into English for Hidden Room's puppet show that is currently touring Europe. In Spring 2015 she returned to Shakespeare's Globe London as Text Assistant, working mainly on The Broken Heart, as well as on Othello and Romeo & Juliet.

Christine has recently co-founded the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival, where she holds now the position of Director of Development. She acted as Maria in its Prologue Season production of Twelfth Night and will return in 2016 as director of Romeo and Juliet. Her further directing credits include Edward Albee's The Goat or Who is Sylvia, Shakespeare's Sonnets and his epic poems: The Rape of Lucrece and Venus and Adonis, as well as his A Midsummer Nights Dream. In America she also directed a German production of Der Bestrafte Brudermord. In Krefeld she supervised two readings, one about the poetry of the Palestinian author Mahmud Darwish, and the other a reading of the surviving letters between Sophie Scholl and Fritz Hartnagel, German pacifists during WWII.
